Apple's 2010 iMac 21.5-inch Speed Bump

Apple's iMac desktops offer some of the best screens out of any all-in-one system on the market. The base model at its release was based around the somewhat dated Intel Core 2 Duo processors. They still offered a significant power compared to all-in-ones based on mobile parts. Now Apple has decided to update their iMac series with a number of upgrades including the move to all of them featuring the Core i 2010 series processors. Toshiba Support Profile

Toshiba has been one of the biggest companies when it comes to portable computers. They have been producing notebooks over the past twenty years and have made many major technology introductions. Gateway's Affordable 20-inch Touchscreen All-In-One

One of the major features to be introduced into the all-in-one desktop market is the touchscreen. With Windows 7 native support for touch input, companies have primarily added this to their premier class systems that fetch a higher price. HP's 20-inch Touchscreen Enabled All-In-One PC

HP's TouchSmart series of all-in-one desktops offers some of the best implementations of touch screen enabled computers on the market. The 600 series offers a very large screen and some great media features but also come with a fairly high price tag. The 300 series offers a much affordable option in a smaller display. Gateway's Updated 23-inch All-In-One PC

Gateway's One ZX6800 series of all-in-one desktops offered a high level of performance and features that made it a strong competitor to the Apple iMac. The 23-inch touchscreen enabled display was a good compromise between Apple's 20-inch and 27-inch models yet pricing was much more affordable. The original release lacked some key multimedia features that would have made it a stand out system. The company has redefined some of the internal components that help boost performance and yet charge a lower price than before. But are all of the changes to their all-in-one PC for the best? Will Microsoft Succeed At A Tablet PC?

Tablet computing is nothing new. Years ago, Microsoft attempted to bring tablets to the market with its Tablet PC operating system. Due to a variety of factors including cost, Microsoft's approach never really took off. Now in 2010, touchscreen devices are common thanks to devices such as the iPhone and iPod. Microsoft and its partners have decided to take a stab at tablet computing again with a new set of systems they are calling slates. First announced at Ballmer's CES 2010 keynote speech, the first Windows 7 Slate devices are scheduled to be released within a matter of months. But will Microsoft and its partners succeed this time? Computer Deal of the Week - Toshiba Satellite T135D Laptop

Netbooks may be great for price but their size can be difficult for some to use. Their small screens and tiny keyboards are not the most ergonomic. For many people, stepping up to an ultraportable with their larger screens and keyboards can really improve their mobile work. NewEgg currently has a deal on the Toshiba Satellite T135D-S1325 laptop for just $520. It features an AMD Turion Neo X2 L625 dual core processor, 4GB of DDR2 memory, 320GB hard drive, 13.3" display, 802.11b/g/n wireless and Windows 7 Home Premium. Performance may not be much higher than a netbook but it does have good battery life, more memory, more hard drive space and the aforementioned larger screen.

Belkin N+ Wireless Router

The Belkin N+ Wireless Router is a great performer with excellent range and throughput speed. If its bulky design and lack of 5GHz frequency support don't put you off, the router is worth every penny of its $100 or so price tag.

HP Pavilion p6510y

The HP Pavilion p6510y midtower desktop is a solid computer that makes quick work in a multitasking environment thanks to its quad-core AMD CPU, and the external connections give video editors the upper hand in terms of speed and versatility. The p6510y deserves our recommendation, but if Photoshop and Dreamweaver aren't part of your daily routine, you can trade the HP's multicore speed for extra hard-drive space and save a couple bucks with a competing Asus system.

Lenovo ThinkPad X201 3626

Anyone looking for the power of a midsize laptop in a compact 12-inch body has only a few choices, and none to date tops Lenovo's excellent ThinkPad X201.

Toshiba Portege R705-P25

Toshiba's Portege R series has always impressed, and the new 13-inch Portege R705 is close to a perfect balance of design, price, and performance.

Canon Pixma MP560

The Canon Pixma MP560 multifunction printer and its flashy 2-inch LCD screen and auto-document feeder may seem appealing at first, but the average consumer will find that Lexmark's Impact S305 offers faster performance and higher quality results for $50 less.

Dell Inspiron i14R-2265MRB

With Windows 7 Professional and built-in WiMax, the Dell i14R-2265MRB is a retail laptop angling for the professional market, and as such might be a good option for a budget small-business machine.

Acer Aspire One 532h-2326

The Acer Aspire One 532h-2326 is just as good for basic tasks as Netbooks costing $100 more, making it a solid sub-$300 option.

Netgear WNDR3700 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router (Premium Edition)

The Netgear WNDR3700 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is a great dual-band router for networking enthusiasts who also want a quick and easy network storage solution.

HP Pavilion dm4

HP's latest multimedia system, the Pavilion dm4, is a powerful, slick-looking package--but some competitors in the same price range offer more features for less.

Cisco Linksys E3000

The Cisco Linksys E3000 is the first advanced router that's also easy to use for novices. It provides great wireless performance and a good set of useful networking features. Its mediocre NAS performance and limited guest networking feature, however, make it significantly less than perfect.

Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BN

With a new Atom processor and a tweaked design, the Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BN is an improvement over the already excellent NB205, at a price that's identical.

HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One

The HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One printer makes it easy to increase productivity thanks to its streamlined user interface. The fax, copy, print, and scanning features boast helpful extras like double-sided printing, wireless connectivity, separate photo trays, and quick-access control panel buttons, all while maintaining lab-quality photos and a low cost to print. We highly recommend this printer to anyone who can benefit from its multifunctionality.

Asus G73JH-RBBX05

Other than some niggling design complaints, the Asus G73JH-RBBX05 is an excellent, well-priced, high-performance desktop replacement for gaming or other demanding tasks.

Asus U30Jc-A1

Asus has built a solid workhorse in the 13-inch U30Jc-1A that sacrifices some portability for gaming prowess, but still has great battery life.

Toshiba Satellite A665-S6070

Toshiba's 16-inch Satellite A665-S6070 desktop replacement offers plenty of performance for just under $1,000, unfortunately wrapped in a dull plastic case.

Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router

The WRT610N can satisfy both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wireless clients with its solid performance, great design, ease of use, and its ability to work as a network storage device when coupled with an external hard drive.

Dell Studio 15

Dell's first release from its new Studio line, the Studio 15, sits between the Inspiron and XPS lines and offers a good mix of features for the price, but we'd be tempted to save up a few extra dollars for a thinner, lighter XPS.

Dell Studio XPS 7100

Dell configured the all-AMD Studio XPS 7100 squarely at gamers, throwing in a powerful 3D card to offset the slow six-core AMD CPU. The result is a fast gaming PC with well-rounded features for an affordable price thanks to a two-month-long special offer. Get it while you can and enjoy fast PC gaming at a great price.

HP Pavilion dm4-1065dx

HP's slick and powerful Pavilion dm4-1065dx offers great core performance, long battery life, and an eye-catching design at a very competitive price, making it a very attractive back-to-school laptop.

HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless

The HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless makes a convincing inkjet argument for offices with a high volume of prints. With a function touch screen, multiple networking options, and an astoundingly fast print speed, it makes perfect sense to give this workhorse an Editors' Choice award.

Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware 2010

Going by older detection and removal numbers, Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware offers competent if basic security protection. However, so do many free competitors. This year, we recommend giving Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware 2010 a pass.

iLife '09

Apple iLife '09 is a great application suite for simple media organizing and editing, and the addition of features like face recognition, geotagging, and music lessons makes it worth the update.

Quicken Deluxe 2010

Quicken 2010 is a solid finance package, especially for novices, but offers little that's substantively new.

iWork '09 Family Pack

Intuitive interface design and easy access to useful features make iWork the best office suite choice on the Mac. Though it lacks some of Microsoft Office's advanced options, iWork '09 is an emerging powerhouse in its own right.

Trend Micro Internet Security 2010

Trend Micro Internet Security Pro's broad feature set combined with its look and feel make it a serious contender, but its questionable efficacy and middling performance make it a program we're not recommending.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 (CD-ROM, 1-Year License)

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 offers pricey antivirus protection. The 2009 version scored well on independent antivirus detection and removal tests, but be prepared to pay a premium for what you're getting.

Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2010

Trend Micro Internet Security Pro's broad feature set combined with its look and feel make it a serious contender, but questionable efficacy and middling performance mean it's a program we're not recommending for this year.

Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard

Intel Mac users will like Snow Leopard's smartly designed interface enhancements, and its Exchange support is a must-have (especially with Outlook for Mac on the way). With a ton of technological improvements, Snow Leopard is worth the $29 upgrade fee.

Corel Home Office

Despite some compatibility setbacks, Corel Home Office suite is useful for creating documents. Its conscientious size, small-screen optimizations, and attractive price make it a good buy for a Netbook office suite, or for saving space by shedding advanced features.

McAfee Total Protection 2010 (1 User)

McAfee Total Protection 2010 hits many of the right notes. It's easy to use and it's effective, but years of below-average releases will likely leave many users unwilling to give it a try.

Livestrong LS12.9T readmill

Purchased a LS12.9T for my wife in Jan 2010. She would use it about 3x week for an hour at a time, fast walking and jogging. While she was using it the unit began to hesitate (belt would stop/start while she was jogging on it - threw her off balance. After it happened twice, we called for service. Nice on the phone, they sent out a new belt and motor, but the techs that were supposed to come took several days to make an appointment, several more for the date they were coming, and then no-showed. Service contacted another tech, several more days before he came out to replace the parts. After a couple of weeks, same thing - belt would stop/start mid-jog. Service sent another part (controller), tech never contacted us, I called to complain, ended up switching out the controller over the phone with the service rep walking me through it. Today, same thing - stop/start while jogging. Service won't replace the unit, even though it clearly poses a risk to anyone who is using it despite their attempted fixes. I would think the manufacturer would want the unit back to identify what the problem is for quality control purposes, but that's obviously not a priority given the language in the warranty. Warranty states manufacturer, Johnson Fitness, is not liable for "loss of enjoyment or use". At the risk of coming across like an old crank on a rant, DO NOT BUY LIVESTRONG TREADMILLS OR PATRONIZE JOHNSON FITNESS PRODUCTS. This company clearly doesn't care about the consumer post sale or the quality of it's product. Despite being friendly on the phone, we still have a defective unit that the company won't replace. By the way, they could elect to use refurbished parts for replacement to fulfill their warranty. Hey Lance, is this how you would want your family treated?
