4  Hardware Support / Hardware Devices Problems / Re: pc keeps freezing on: May 24, 2004, 01:37:04 AM
Hi C123,
A computer freezing up can be caused by many different things.Hardware/software issues,a bad stick of memory spyware/virus.Most of the time it's a heat issue.Go to radio shack, staples,or anywhere they sell office supplies & buy canned air.Shut down the computer & unplug it.Take the side panel off.Grab the bare metal with both hands to discharge any static electricity.Clean out all the dust & animal dander, then blow out all the rest.Make sure you get the cpu fan & also the power supply fan in the back. Then plug it in & turn it on.DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE.Look at the cpu fan & make sure it's running steadily, not slowing down & speeding up.If it looks ok,then shut it down & put the panel back on.Post back & let us know if this helped.
Take care.

Hi F,
Go into the bios & check out the bootup order. It should be set to:
boot1-floppy
boot2-hdd
boot3-cd rom
This should be the order after installing windows. If need be,change it to this order & save changes before exiting the bios.
Take care.

Hi Cos,
There are many things that'll cause a computer to freeze.A hardware or software issue,a bad stick of memory. Most of the time,it's caused by a heat issue.First,go to radio shack or any place that sells canned air.Shut down & unplug the computer.Take the side panel off.Grab the bare metal with both hands to discharge any static electricity. Then clean out all the dust & naimal dander(if you have pets). Then blow out the rest with the canned air, also blow out the faf in the back by the power supply. Then plug in the computer & turn it on.DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE.Look at the fan on the cpu & make sure it's running steadily, not slowing down & speeding up.If it's runnimg steadily, then shut down the computer & put the side panel back on.Turn it on & post back if this helped or if it still freezes.
Take care.
