PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:windows xp
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model: dell dimension 2400
Error Messages: none

Probably a simple question;but a real pain for me.
It takes a very long time for my computer to boot. I have many icons on my desktop, most of which I did not intend to be there.
DO they all open each time that I boot up? If so, will removing them from the desktop stop them from opening, but keep the files/programs on the computer?  Thanks

Hi jerrimd6

Deleting the icons on your desktop will have no effect on the programs you have running at startup. Most of the time the icons are just shortcuts, if you notice they will have an arrow on the icon itself, meaning its a shortcut.
What you can do is click Start | Run and type in msconfig
Click the Startup tab, here is where you will find all the programs that run at startup. To stop a program from running at startup you take the checkmark out of the box beside the process. Be careful what you remove you do need some things to run at startup

Hope this helped Grin
