Until they read it'll cost them 50 euros. Wink

Anyway, I am cleaning a computer I have cleaned nothing less than 6 months ago. It's chuck full of nasties again and I have managed to delete lots of virusses, stuff and other stuff.

I alweays wonder why people uninstall a good & up to date AV package like AVG Free 7.0 and install Norton 2003 or 2004!!!

Anyway, it'll pay me. Smiley

I'm sure I can pay the person helping me somehow.

Hi
Lets hope you took out all the correct exe files when you cleaned it...
----------------------------------------------
How to install and run CWShredder

Download CWShredder
Choose the stand alone version. This is free.
Save cwshredder.exe into its own directory, NOT in a TEMPorary folder or on the DESKTOP.
I recommend, c:/program files/CWShredder/
Close all browsers
Unzip into same directory
Doubleclick CWSInstall.exe
Click <Check for updates> and let it install all updates
Click <Fix>
Click <Next>
Close CWShredder//

----------------------------------------------------------------------

How to setup  AboutBuster version 5

Download AboutBuster

Then unzip all files from the zip folder to a folder or your desktop. Start it and press the OK button. Then hit the update button and a new screen will appear. On that screen press the Check for Updates button..

To scan your machine, press the Start button and then press OK. The program should start scanning. When it is done, press the exit button and reboot. Once rebooted run About:Buster one more time.

This program is updated often so you should always use the built in update feature before you scan with it.

---------------------------------------------
Please download Ewido Security Suite and do a scan when you first get into Safe Mode.

 Install Ewido Security Suite.
When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck: "Install background guard" and  "Install scan via context menu"

To open the main screen double click the icon on the desktop.

You will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'.(only if no updated have first been installed) Click OK.

Update to the latest definition files. On the left of the main screen click Update. Then click on Start Update.Let it complete the updates.

Now Click on Scanner and Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will start.

During some scans  it may find cases of false positives so you will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.

If a file is detected you KNOW to be legitimate, select None as the action. Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'

If you are unsure of any entry found play safe and select None as the action.
Press the button marked Save Report

Save the report .txt file to your desktop or somewhere you can find it.Post it back with your next HJT log.

Thanks for that, Pancake.

The AboutBuster link is a dud though. I used (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/aboutbuster.php) to download it. It's breaking on trying to update, though. And the computer's stability isn't so good that I can keep it online for long.

No matter how many scans I run Ewido, I always am stuck on it (and all other scanners, btw) not being able to delete Altnet. Thanks for the first run, I'll get you back sometime, having to press 30 times "do this", or "try that". Wink
Anyway, I'll post the log a tad later on. After the next reboot and checking if the system stabilizes.

Download Attachment: Scan rapport_20051014.txt.txt 9.48 KB
Right click and select Save Target As... then rename the file as shown here and save.

I am using Spyhunter2 from (http://www.spywareremove.com/removeAltnet.html) now to get rid of it. It's found at least 3 other entries that Spybot, AAW, MS: AS and all the other software had missed.

I managed to get rid of Altnet by using the manual removal steps on the site above. Am now re-stabilizing the PC. But first appearances show it to be clean. Yay. Smiley

Lots of trouble in the form of Lop.com on a Open Search Web bar and page that I can get rid of. Or at least, I gave up on it last night.

When it does show in HJT, I can not get id of it for longer than 10 minutes. (Like the R1 below)
Spybot, AAW, MSAS all ignore it being there.
The uninstaller you ought to be able to get fom the site is infected with a virus, so it's impossible to download it and use it.

Go here http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/lopremover.exe and download the LOP uninstaller and run it.

Run HJT and fix this item and delete the (red) file...

Thanks, but that didn't work. The lop remover said it couldn't find any lop on the computer. So even after the forced uninstall, the infection was still around.

I went about a bit more rigourous: I got CCleaner, let it first run on its own to see what it did.

Then I booted that PC into safe mode, went to do some manual regediting; used smallpocket killbox to get rid of 3 folders that were continuously returning after deletion, then ran CCleaner with really everything on.

Upon the reboot I was freed of everything nasty.
Now I need to find a way to make sure I don't see this box again within 6 months. Better firewall, anti virus, a lot of sites not allowed to go to. That'll take me another day to do. Wink

But thanks Pancake. If you know of any other program I need to use to check what else is lurking... Wink
