PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:win 98se
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

I've fitted new dvd player an cd writer
trouble is
when i insert a disk into either drive it appears in my computer as it should
but
when i remove the disk it doesnt disappear from my computer and if i put another disk into drive it doesnt read it as it thinks the 1st disk is still there
for example
i put game A into dvd drive(E) and comp reads it ok
remove disk from drive(E)
put game B into same drive(E)
my computer still thinks drive(E) has game A in and refuses to acknowledge gameB
i have auto insert OFF as i prefer it this way

have found that if i go to My Computer/View/Refresh it refreshes so it seems that the problem is that My Computer is not refreshing itself automatically when it did before i fitted new drives
Is there any way i can get this refreshing itself again?

Hi,

Did you recently install IE6? If so read this:
Windows Explorer View Does Not Refresh After You Install Internet Explorer 6 on Windows 98 Second Edition

I didnt recently install IE6 but that thread describes my problem exactly.
The funny thing is that when i start internet explorer both drives start up and My Computer refreshes.
The solution to my prob is there(click on refresh) just would have liked it back the way it was
i.e. automatically refreshing when i insert or remove disk
is this at all possible or  do i live with it the way it is?

Hi,

I think if "Auto-Instert Notification" was turned on for both drives this problem would not exist. You can try it out to see and you will need to decide which option you find more important!
