PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: WINDOWS XP
-------------------------------------------------------

I have 18 GB in drive C: If I double click on Drive C I have some program files (not a lot of space) and windows... However, my computer says that I only have 7 GB of space free. If I right click on program files and then click on properties it appears it has 1.06 GB used, If I do the same on C:windows it says 2.25 GB, C:documents and settings 133 MB. My question is where is the other 8 GB im supposedly using.

THANKS A LOT

i could be wrong but i think that windoes takes up space itself.

Download http://www.stevengould.org/downloads/cleanup/CleanUp40.exe

this program will clean up your temp internet files and stuff and if you have never done this then it contain some serious amounts of space. reply and tell me how it worked?

The truth is that Windows contains rather a lot of Hidden files and folders - although 1GB used for a simple install is rather high (unless perhaps you have an original version of XP, upgraded to SP1 and then SP2).
On an 18GB drive, up to 2GB many be hidden in System Restore - which is rather excessive. I suggest that you limit the size of teh archive to about 4-500MB, and see if that makes a difference to your available space. To do this, go to System Properties, and click on the System Restore tab - highlight the C: drive, and click on Settings.... set the slider bar at around 4-500MB, which should be ample for a few days of SR points, unless you're continually installing and uninstalling programs.OK out, and see what the result is.
