Hi,

Try adding/replacing (if already exists) this to your config.sys

stacks=9,256

Thanks, I tried that and I still get this when I run surface scan
"Internal stacks overflow caused this session to be halted. Change the STACKS setting in your config.sys file and try again.
I have 3 Bad clusters, 779,663 clusters with 13455 examined and 0 found bad.  So I am really confused.
Is there a special way to get into config.sys? I went into the find files and found it. I also didnt' know what to use to open it so I used Notepad. Am I doing it wrong? PLMK!
Thanks!

Hi,

If you ran scandisk from windows and got this error, scan your system for a virus!

This issue can occur because your computer may be infected with the W32.HLLW.Bymer worm. This type of worm is also called Dnet.Dropper or W32/Msinit.

If you ran scandisk by shutting down to MS-DOS mode and added 'stacks=9,256' to config.sys (using notepad is fine), you will need to completely reboot the system so that config.sys loads with the new setting. Hit F8 right before the Windows logo screen to access the Windows Boot Menu and select "Command Prompt Only", then try to run scandisk by typing 'scandisk' at the prompt.
