Hi, please could someone enlighten me on how to format my hard drive, I have sold a laptop on fleabay and need to format it before I send it to the lucky new owner.
I have tried FDISK in DOS but it doesn't do anything.
The laptop is on XPP SP2.

FDISK doesn't format a drive, you use it to delete the ready made partitions on the drive.
By rotating through the options, you can tell it to delete all possible partitions, until none are left. Then you create a new partition as FAT32 and select the option that it's a big drive (I can't remember the exact wording in there).
Then exit FDISK and give the command Format C:
That should ensure that no old information sits on the harddrive when you sell the laptop on. The thing you must remember though is that you'll probably have to send the original OS CD along, if you have it, since it's finetuned to work with the hardware in the laptop.

Good luck Smiley
