Hey there, my boss is having a strange problem. He has an older pc with Windows 98SE, IE 6.0, and for some strange reason he cannot clear his address bar using Tools\Internet Options\Clear History. I've had him download Cleanup, tried the disk cleanup that came with Windows, and still it won't clear. He has recently updated and run Adaware, Spybot, AVG Antivirus, and also run scandisk and defrag. I've had him try it in Safe Mode also. No luck. Anyone have any thoughts on what may cause this?

Try going to the iISystem Wiper website and download the said tool. It has amazing capabilities when it comes to cleaning up temp file history, as well as other residue.

Report back and let us know how you fared.

Good luck

Well, the iISystem Wiper did everything it's meant to do... except clear the history bar on Internet Explorer. Could this be some sort of browser hijacking? There are no signs of viruses and he runs (and updates) Spybot, Adaware, and AVG Anti-Virus on a monthly basis. He's not into p*rn sites so the history thing is not a real issue but it's bothersome that this problem persists. Any other ideas?

In IE, what does he have the Days to keep History set at? Have him set it to 0
Also in the Content tab, under Personal Information, click the Auto Complete button, is ther a checkmark beside Web Addresses? Have him take it out and see if this helps.

Also have him run SFC in the run box.

Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd.

If he navigates to the History folder, C:\WINDOWS\History, can he delete everything in there?

Hi guys Smiley .. looks like you guys have everything pretty much covered!
I know this is crazy but if ALL else fails...try this...very simple!

Put your mouse in the ADDRESS BAR...double click the the url so it HIGHLIGHTS
Now press DELETE
Now DOUBLE click in the empty ADDRESS BAR
Put your Mouse on the TOP Address so it HIGHLIGHTS(putting your mouse on it will do that)
Now hold the DELETE button until the Address Bar is empty.
That should work!!
