Good day.  I can play DVDs in my drive but cannot play CDs, store bought or home made.  When I put in a CD the whole system seems to crawl.  Diagnostics says all is good.  Any suggestions as to how to get the CDs to play.  They play fine in my second drive.
Thanks,
Dan

Try cleaning the drive. Go to your local Radio Shack or Walmart and purchase some CD Laser Lens Cleaner.
If this does not resolve the issue I would suspectt he drive going bad on ya

Thanks for the advice.  I'll have to get one of those cleaners.  Could you tell me why when I put in a DVD, it is recognized and plays yet when a CD is installed, it cannot recognized it and will not play it.  My second player, a Liteon DVD-ROM ltd 163, will recognized and play DVD's and the CDs.  We are trying to make some mix CD's selecting a few songs from different CD's and putting them on one but can't figure out how (it won't let us) to do it with only the Liteon player.
Thanks

I got the disc cleaner.  When installed it does nothing in the problem drive.  In the good drive I can hear it spin up.  Any other suggestions.
Thanks,
Dan

Its possible the laser that reads the cd is bad but the one used for dvds is still good.
You cant use your Lite-On DVD-Rom because it only reads, it doesnt write.
I hate to say it but your drive is bad, just replace it.
Heres a nice Lite-On I think you would like.
