Suddenly my Son's USB Ports stopped working on his Toshiba laptop. Device Manager shows needs drivers. Tried reinstalling drivers from the Toshiba recovery DVD and from an XP Pro CD, but, the wizard said unable to find them. Any help short of reinstalling the OS would be appreciated.

Sorry about that. It is a Satellite M35X-S109, Windows XP HE. I also forgot to say that I went to Toshiba, but, they said update the BIOS. When I clicked their link for the BIOS Drivers, I got a not found. Weird support for a laptop less than 2 years.

Point it to the Windows\System folder when reinstalling . As long as you didnt remove/delete them they should be in there.

Geekgirl: When you say reinstall, do you mean the drivers or the OS? I tried reinstalling the drivers as you suggested, as I stated in my post. I am trying to avoid reinstalling the OS.

Yeah you stated in your post you tried reinstalling drivers from the Toshiba recovery DVD and from an XP Pro CD, but not from the System directory which is where they should be if they were not removed/deleted. Try looking in C:\Windows\System 32
