Hello, and thanks in advance!!!

BRIEF SUMMARY OF PROBLEM:
I cannot install the software for my HP Printer on my new Dell computer. When I try, I get a window saying that there is already a more recent version of this software installed on my computer, so the window closes out. When I plug the USB cable from my device into my computer to try to get just a plug-and-play recognize, the Found New Hardware Wizard opens, goes through a series of processes, and then closes after displaying a message about not being able to connect to the device.

Those 3-in-1 products are sometimes the worse  PC Smash PC Smash

Heres some things to try if applicable:

Disconnect the USB cable to the all-in-one and then uninstall the all-in-one software following the directions in HP document Uninstalling the HP All-in-One Software.
Restart the computer. Leave the all-in-one disconnected until instructed to connect it during the installation. Try reinstalling

Make sure the system is up-to-date by visiting the Microsoft's Windows Update Page

Disable any anti-virus software currently running on the computer, try to install software.

Geekgirl-

Thanks for responding. I never thought to run the uninstall from the cdrom. I tried it, but got the same message saying that I already had newer software on my computer. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I appreciate your help. Any other thoughts?

Remove the software via Add/Remove Programs
Go into the Program Files and delete the folder
Go into the Registy Editor, click Edit/Find and type in Hp
Delete all reference to the printer in question, reboot and see if you can install.

Make sure you back up your registry before editing.

Geekgirl-

I got it!!! I followed your suggestion (unfortunately, a lot of Norton files apparently also have Hp in their filenames, so I had to uninstall and reinstall that), but to no avail- it still didn't work. Finally, I contacted HP and they sent me a utility to remove scanner-related software. After that and a restart, the software loaded perfectly! Thanks a million.
