My girlfriend has just received her laptop after being "slightly fixed" and recovering from a very nasty virus. She believes everything works fine accept one thing!

She can't log on to any of her accounts on ANY websites! Now, this is not a security issue, as I can sign into her accounts using the same username and password she is! Undecided

Apparently she will get a "wrong password" message from various sites, or not get any response at all. Can you please help?!

Check for her if she's accidentally activated the Caps Lock button when she's entering her password, also if she's deactivated her Num Lock key, if that's used for password entry.

Usually something like this is easy to fix once you know what to look out for.
You'll also have to look into her hosts file, which is located within C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc folder.
The file should be recognisable by being marked with no extension whatsoever and by default it should only contain one small entry, apart from the normal header.

Please let me know how you get on.

Good luck

We checked all that. Haha, it definitely wasn't the caps problem. Laugh or num lock.

Her etc folder contained six entries, as does mine. Should I figure there's nothing wrong with that then?

Guess we haven't found the solution yet. Sad

What are the entries?

It basically should only be:

127.0.0.1    localhost

And then some items you may add yourself, e.g.

127.0.0.1   virusspam.com

Note that the url I added here is fictional, I hope Wink

If that's all in the clear, I reckon she'll have to clear her cookies and history and then try again.

Please inform me of how that works

good luck Smiley
