Hi,
Recently purchased a computer from lucomputers.com. Lately while running in game and only while in game, i had been having intermittent shutdowns at random times. It seemed to me like it was a cooling problem, but then i used programs to watch temperatures of my hd and my cores and found out the values were below normal even when being stressed. My setup is as follows:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ Socket AM2
AMD Original Cooling Fan & Heatsink
Memory 2GB DDR II 800 Reaper HPC Ed. (1gb x2)
Mother Board ASUS M2N-E SLI Motherboard
Hard Drive 1 Western Digital 250GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA II
Power Supply 550 Watt Optimax Dual Fan Power Supply
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (OEM)
ATI FireGL v5000(128mb gddr3)

My computer will not shut down randomly by itself while just on the desktop, only at certain times while playing in game, and it shuts down completely(does not restart). I have recently updated mobo bios, video drivers, and recently installed TuneUp Utilities to correct any other small registry and application errors i can find. There is no warning of a shutdown, just out of no where it turns off. I cannot monitor my video card temperatures because there is no internal probe, and i have also tried installed 2 chassis fans to add to the ventilation. Some days i can play for hours in game with absolutely no problems, and then somedays no more then 30 minutes. The specific game is Counter-Strile 1.6 through a program called Steam developed by Valve. My video card seems to be running fine (constant frame rate, no frame rate drop, and no discolor). I have no idea what to check/try (i also have a spare 430W power supply but i am not sure if it is any benefit to swap?). Sugguestions are welcome and more info can be provided.

The first thing to check would be to try swapping PSUs and see if that makes any difference at all, since you have a spare one lying around. If the problem persists, then we know your current one is not to blame, so that's one less thing to troubleshoot.

Additionally, go to your Event Viewer and see if there are any error messages around the times of crashing.

Go to your Control Panel, double click Administrative Tools and then open the Event Viewer. Check all the logs and note any events with a red error flag with a white x on top of it.

You can copy the error to your clipboard in a very easy way. First double click the error in question, then press a button with two sheets of paper shown and then paste all errors into notepad.

Then post the entire list here. Hopefully it's not too big, as there will be quite a challenge reading through more than 4 or 5 Wink

Good luck
