PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows XP
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model: Speaker system
Error Messages: none

I just purchased a surround sound speaker system for my computer. It has 5 speakers and a subwoofer. The problem I'm having is that only the two main speaker outlets seem to work. All five speakers work.....so long as they are plugged into the two main speaker outlets on the subwoofer.

Does this sound like a problem with my speaker system, or is it more likely I have the wrong sound card and / or software to support a 5 speaker system? Thanks.

Have you gone to the control panel for multi-media and selected option for stereo speaker surround 5.1?

Thanks.  I didnt have a 5.1 soundcard.  I bought the soundcard, installed it.  Set the settings to 5.1, but now the subwoofer and middle speaker won't work.  Any new suggestions.  Thanks for the earlier help.

Hi,

First, make sure all the speakers are correctly connected.

Then, make sure that all the default devices on the 'Audio' and 'Voice' tab of the 'Sounds and Audio Devices' applet in the Control Panel are set to your new sound card.

Also try the "Surround sound speakers" option in the 'Advanced' button of the 'Speaker Settings' section of the 'Volume' tab of the 'Sounds and Audio Devices' applet in the Control Panel instead of the '5.1 surround sound speakers'.
