I've been using Trend Micro's PC-cillin for a couple of years and it's time to renew.  The 2008 version has not been receiving favourable reviews.  So now I'm looking at other options like Zone Alarm, AVG, Eset, etc.  I have searched the forums and haven't found anything that could help my search.  Most of the posts are pretty old.

Questions are:

1) What is the best overall security suite on the market today?

2) Is a complete suite worth purchasing, or should I consider purchasing separate utilities from various companies?

3) Are the free utilities like those listed on this site the best way to go?

My current PC configuuration is:
Dell XPs Gen 3
XP Pro SP2
2GB Ram
320GB HD (partitioned) & 400GB HD

Thanks

S**** all thoughts of buying the tools, because the free ones are no worse than the expensive suites.

For AntiVirus, head over to http://www.avira.com and download AntiVir Personal Classic (at least that was the name I saw last time around) and it's free.

For Firewall, try Comodo from http://www.comodo.com/products/free_products.html

Both are very good and easy on computer resources.

If you trust AntiVirus solutions you pay for better, then I'd go to http://www.eset.com and purchase NOD32, which is a really good AV package, one that I've used on many occasions. Very easy on resources and integrates flawlessly with most e-mail clients and office suites.

Good luck

I'll try out Comodo's firewall.  I'll also try NOD32.  I've used AVG before without problems too.  I just want the best protection.  I'm also using CounterSpy for spyware.

Does it make a difference that I have a Linksys router because I've activated the firewall on the router?
