OK I got this message this afternoon on my mom's dell. 

unmountable_boot_volume
 technical information  *** stop: 0x000000ed (Ox812BF8DO, OXC000009C, OX00000000, OX00000000)

I ran the boot fix and it didnt work so i ran it again.  Now the computer shuts off when it boots off the HD or the XP disk.  Any ideas?

Find the manufacturer of your hard drive and run their Hard Drive Diagnostics Utility.
