My DVD drive is no longer able to recognize disks inserted in it. I put a disk in (I've tried DVDs, CDs and programs) and it not only doesn't open up in the autostart thing, but when I click on the drive under my computer it says there's no disk in there.

This happened to my old DVD drive, but I'd had that one for a few years and figured it was just shot so I replaced it with this one in August. It worked well for a few months, but then went the same way the old one had... it just stopped working.

The computer is an old school compaq Presario 6000, running windows xp home edition 5.01.2600. The Drive in question is a HP DVD writer 1040r.

I don't think you need to know it, but the main board is unspecified KM266 52-35, at least that's according to the programs I downloaded from Cupid.

I forgot to mention that I already ran spybot and adaware and HJT. Cheesy

Yesterday my CD drive was working fine, I was able to play oblivion and read CDs/DVDs. Today when I tried to ply oblivion it would not read the disc, or any other disc I tried with it.

I tried restarting, I booted into both Vista and Windows 7 and it wont work in either OS.

When I insert a disc the disc never spins up, it makes a clicking sound a few times and then just goes silent.

Anyone have any suggestions?
