RAM upgrade and driver issues

I just upgraded the RAM in my inspiron 1720 from 2gb to 4 gb. Following the upgrade a number of my keyboard keys have stopped working, num lock, delete, down arrow and ctrl no longer work, and occasionally r,t,v,b and others will stop working as well. A tech guy advised me to ensure that all of my drivers updates, specifically bios, were up to date and downloaded, and it should take care of the problem. However, after installing all necessary driver updates and window updates, the problem persists. Has anyone had an issue with keyboard failure following a RAM upgrade? Please Help. Thanks!
Note: I also tried taking the keyboard out and putting it back in. I am also aware that putting my old ram back in will likely fix the problem, however, I bought the RAM for a reason and would prefer to keep it in and solve the problem.

I am also having this problem while trying to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium. The uninstall of the DVD-RAM driver fails from the Control Panel (the uninstall window just closes). If I go to the Device Manager and uninstall the two drivers....the DVD drives are gone and I can't use the Win7 DVD to install Windows 7. I restored the system back to just before the Windows 7 install and the DVD drives return. But, the upgrade still fails.
