Deciding between LGA 1156 and AM3, cpu features, & plan on trading up cpu later. 1st question) Is this new Intel bridging for i3/i5/i7 desirable? If you answer re: bottlenecks, hasn't AMD's hypertransport done that for years? 2) Is L3 that significant for multi-threaded appls? Some say it'll really help these newer appls only if you're above 3 GHz.
I'm leaning towards some newer Athlons because they have hyperthreading (I believe) and I think AMD's Overdrive will give more 'headroom' to OC (I don't oc yet). I also think upcoming 6 core AMD chips will negate any advantage of going LGA 1156. Don't care about power usage and I figure my card will cause plenty of heat to deal with anyway.
Lastly, I think I'd forgo a Pent G6950 as it would limit my ram speed to 1066 and I definitely want DDR3. Now don't take offense but I've read the IGP of an i3 530 approximates a Radeon HD 2600Pro, which would seem to cover my games, but every post I read says don't believe it/not above 800x600.
Note - I multitask, play older games but need to do some video editing soon, nothing major. I'm planning on a 21" widescreen lcd and want to game w/high settings.
