PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:windows xp
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:maxtor ide 30 gb hard drive
Error Messages:

I have just installed a new hard drive which is 30gb However my pc is only showing it as 2gb. I am told it has something to do with the partition. I have a program called partition magic, but i don't know how to use it. Do i need to
create a new partition?
re-size a partition?
merge a partiton?
or one of the other choices?
Please help, i need to find out how to get the rest of the hard drive, and not just 2gb of it.
Thank you.

I suggest that you read the help and tutorials for PMx as it will solve your issue.

All your question are answered in the instructions for PM.

You do not require help from this forum as you already have the right tools.

Just learn the application, simple.

good luck

Not the most helpfull of replies for a beginner to read. the tutorials make very little sense to me, so it would have been helpful if you could have told me which option i needed,to get the maximum from my new hard drive, given the problem!

Hi,

What are you trying to do? Create one 30GB partition or partition the remainder of the drive for a 2gb C: drive and a 28gb D: drive?

To have one 30gb C: drive you will have to resize the partition using the latest Partition Magic that supports WinXP.

To add a partition, go to the 'Computer Management' in the Control Panel and select 'Disk Administration', you will be able to partition the rest of the drive and format it.

Sorry Mr. Beginner if I sounded terse.

Why did you get Partition Magic in the first place if you are never going to use it?

Hi,

Glad to help! Grin

I will close this thread assuming I have answered your question and that the drive is now setup correctly. If you encounter any problems, let me know and I will re-open this thread.
