I'm not sure where to start but basically i have an old laptop that a senior uses and the wireless card stopped working.

He takes this laptop with him when he travelled, so the laptop has been on the plane.

The wireless card is a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Adapter mn-720. It used to work without problem. The issue now is it will not turn on. I unplug and plug it back into the PCMCIA slot then you hear the laptop make a click sound and a really fade light on the card and then it just turns off. Sometimes it takes like 10-20 tries before it turns on. However, once the laptop is turned off and you restart, it doesn't turn back on. I've tried this on both PCMCIA slots.

At first, there was an '!' in the device manager, so i deleted it and let xp reinstall the driver. It worked for 1 day. I also tried deleting the PCMCIA and wait for windows to reinstall it but it did not work either. I even went into the BIOS and enabled "Internal Network Adapter" and that seemed to work for a day only.

I have scanned laptop for viruses and spyware but nothing.

Am I missing something here?

I had a pcmcia card reader and it worked without problems. It looks like the wireless card is dying.

So, new problem. I have obtained a new pcmcia wireless card but when it turns on, it just decides to not work. I found out that when I go into device management, it is always disable everytime the laptop turns on.

i've tried enabling but it disables when it turns on, tried updating driver (may try again) and tried uninstall and reinstall driver...

it's a belkin wireless card

any help would be appreciated
