Hi
If I click on the icon for Malwarebytes I get the message for me to allow malwarebytes to make changes to my computer. however, when I agree the message just disappears and nothing happens.
I have tried running something called chameleon but although it appears to run it ends up saying that it has terminated, press any key to continue. when you do that it disappears.

I have noticed my laptop running slow the last couple of weeks.  Could this be a virus?

any help appreciated.

Hi

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Clean.
  • A logfile will automatically open after the scan has finished.
  • Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[R1].txt as well.
----------------------------------------------------

I'd like you to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan

(1) Click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window. http://eset.com/onlinescan
(2) Click the ESET OnlineScanner  button.

Click on  to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
Double click on the ESET Smart Installer  icon on your desktop.

Click the Start  button.
Accept any security warnings from your browser.
Check Scan Archives
Click the Start button.
ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
When the scan completes, push List of found threats
Click Export to text file, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
Click the Back  button.
Click Finish

ESET scan results, although I did not see an option to scan archives:

C:\Users\Ian\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Low\IE\ERYX81A3\SoftonicDownloader_for_clonecd[1].exe   a variant of Win32/SoftonicDownloader.F potentially unwanted application   deleted - quarantined
C:\Users\Ian\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Low\IE\NTQVW2TB\SoftonicDownloader_for_clonecd[1].exe   a variant of Win32/SoftonicDownloader.F potentially unwanted application   deleted - quarantined
C:\Users\Ian\AppData\Local\Temp\ICReinstall_FreeMP4VideoConverter.exe   a variant of Win32/InstallCore.D potentially unwanted application   deleted - quarantined

Thanks

Hi
Have just tried it in safe mode and got the following error message:

"The exception unknown software exception (0x40000015) occurred in the application at location 0x7433d6fd.  Click on OK to terminate the program"

In normal mode the program doesn't run at all although the laptop in general seems faster.

Thanks

All I can suggest is that you uninstall MBAM and get another copy. From my research some others are having your problem. It sounds like its not compatible with one of you programs. As I only specialise in malware it might  be best if you take up the problem with my colleagues over here on the Windows 8 forum at  http://www.ihelpforum.com/index.php?categories/tech-help.101/ they are good and should be able to fix it for you.  Grin

Many Thanks for your help.  I'm sure my laptop is running faster now.  I will follow up with that other forum as you suggested.

Thanks again
