PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Windows XP Pro
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:



Hi, I just got my pc up and running again and I tried to reinstall XP Pro but after a few minutes I get this error message -

the file acpi.sys is corrupted
press any key to continue

Does anyone know what that means because I never used to get this before.

First of all try to do this.
Put xp pro in cdrom and then go to start run

at the prompt type this sfc /scannow

That will replace protected system files.

If that does not work then boot to your cdrom and let it start the new install.

It will seem like it is installing xp again.

When it sees your existing installation it will ask if you want xp to repair it.

I think it will ask to hit R for repair.

However make sure ACPI is enabled in your bios.It is usually under Power Managment.

You will not lose any files and it should fix everything.
