Operating System Version: Win 98
Pentium II 450 Iwill motherboard

My Windows media player worked fine until I downloaded an update (ver 7 ?) from mircosoft web site. After the update I can hear the sound but cannot get the video. I check the formats and made sure every thing was selected. Any clues would be appreciated.

Hi,

Are you getting any error messages?
Are you having this problem streaming video and/or viewing downloaded AVI, MPEG...files?

Check out Microsoft's Windows Media Player Support Center

I do not get error message.
MPEG's I know are a problem. I have not really tried anything else.
I tried downloading the player a second time but got the same result.
Sound but no video

Hi,

Perhaps the problem is because you don't have the correct codec installed.

Try installing codec 8 from http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324290

I uninstalled version 7.1 and returned to version 6.4.
Windows media player worked fine. I had both audio and video.
I re-installed version 7.1 with codec 8 and the problm returned.
Audio works but no video.

Hi,

Do you have the latest video drivers installed from your video card's manufacturers website?

Look at the players options and lower the 'Video Acceleration' on the performance tab.
