PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: windows98
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:ibm aptiva 2170
Error Messages:
1780 IDE primary configuration channel master drive
0162 eqipment configuration error
The partition table is recognizable
Use FDISK to delete the partition.
No fixed disks present.
There is no back up disks done.
I need to do a complete restore. PC will not allow the restore it will just stop & then I receive error messages.

Thanks for your response & yes I am experiencing the problem.
After I start the restore I receive these messages:
"The partition table is unrecognizable. Use FDISK to delete the partition.
5 - The IBM Product Recovery Program has stopped."
I am still receiving the 1780 IDE primary configuration channel master drive and 0162 eqipment configuration error.

Primary IDE Master - No drive
IDE Slave - No drive

I hope this helps you help me.

Hi,

Have you added any new hardware to your system since this problem started? (e.g. cdrom drive, cdrw drive...)

Sounds to me like the hard drive is not being recognized by the system. Check your BIOS setup settings to make sure the hard drive parameters are there or that it is set to AUTO. You should see a message during power up to hit a certain key to enter setup (or something similar)

Thanks for the help,I have done the restore, the PC reaches the windows login > building driver base >found new hardware > monitor & then freezs with "Windows protection error, please restart your computer". I have to shut the power of on the back of the PC. I had thought I had solved the problem until I got to this. Please help. Thanks in advance.
