Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model: Intel Pent 4  845pe-ant Motherboard
Error Messages: Floppy Drive A failure code 40

I just installed a new motherboard, cpu, harddrive and cdburner.  Now I am getting a error code 40 Floppy Drive A is not accessible.  I also am getting an error message saying that there is no sound card installed.  I have installed it from the disk that came with the motherboard and it is showing up on the device manage but it is not working still.  Any suggestions?

Hi,

The floppy error is probably due to the ribbon cable connected reversed at one end. Try disconnecting one end and re-inserting it the other way around. Also make sure it is connected to the end connected and not the middle (if the cable supports two floppy disk drives)

Where do you get the no sound card installed error? during bootup or using an application and which one?

I get the no sound driver installed message whenever I try to play a media file.
Thank you.

As for the floppy drive--it now works--but when I start the computer up it still says floppy drive A error code 40--but it works!  thank you.

Hi,

Check the Multimedia icon in the Controle Panel and make sure the preferred sound device is set correctly.

For the floppy, go into the BIOS and make sure there is nothing defined for Floppy B
