Sad My modem is showing up in the control panel that it is working. But for some reason when I try to connect to the internet it can't find the modem.  I have checked the connections on the setup and it is there.  I reinstalled modem drivers and still can't get on the internet.  Any ideas?
Thanks a bunch

You can try unistalling modem from hardware devices. If this does not work, open the PC case and reinstall modem in the PCI slot. Let me know. lbtanny1@aol.com

Yes, it sounds like it is a bad modem. I would however boot to safe mode go to device manager (right click my computer/property's/system propers's) and remove all modem devices and reboot. If windows does not reinstall it ... $:(

Could still be a driver problem. Have you tried going to safe mode (reboot and tap on f8 key) then look in dvm (control panel/system?device manager). Removing the devices in there(in this case modem) will force windows to reinstal the rightdriver.

You can also use a simple program like hyperterminal or dial pad to test the modem.

Do you know want I mean

ok here is something i found am pasting it in here in entirety

Upon opening a Windows telecommunications program, it is not uncommon to receive an error stating that the modem cannot be initialized. This problem is typically caused by one of three things. First, if the user is using an external modem, the modem may not be getting power. Second, the telecommunications program could be set to look at the wrong serial port. Finally, and most likely, another program may already have initialized the modem.
