Hello

I have a windows XP & IE is 6.

From time to time I get a message from Microsoft that new updates have been detected and I can proceed to update my PC.  Last time I did this it upset my PC, I didn't even notice that my Norton Virus had been removed.  My home pagee would not load & my emails and  attachments would not open.

My PC is under guarantee, the engineer told me to try systems tools, that didn't work. He then told me to re-installed all programmes by using the restore disk, unfornatually this was missing from the pack.  As it happened after noticing Norton Virus wasn't there I re-installed it, after everything was ok.

I get a reminder everyday to update my PC. In view what happened last time, I just ignore it.

My question is what updates are these, do I really need them? I personally don't think so.  I have a simple approach to computers if things are working then leave it alone. However, by not taking the option to update my PC am I doing anything wrong? Please advise.

Thanks

Jaz

by not applying the updates you can open yourself to attacks from hackers and any number of virii updating with the critical updates is best but you can be picky about the ones you get as some of them are not for everyone as not everyone has the same configuration as yours so look through the updates and only get the ones you need
