PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:w98
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

After a hung computer,it was necessary to switch off using the power button. When rebooted,ScanDisk started and went to 8 or 9% and indicated FAT 16 problem.
Rebooting does not go past Windows Startup Menu with command prompt only highlighted. However, neither mouse nor keyboard are operating. Can't get to safe mode or into BIOS without keyboard.Tried different keyboards, different ports,no use.
Tried boot disk and Windows98 CD but can not make choices without a keyboard.
Any help available.

Hi,

My first thought is the motherboard is toast! Sad

Was any new hardware recently installed?

Hi,

Is the system still under warranty? If so get it serviced. If not, either purchase a new motherboard (if system is not a proprietary name brand) at a shop that will take it back if problems are not solved or get it serviced.

The computer is rather old and slow and is time for retirement and/or replacement.I'm in the process of shopping around.
Thanks for the help and interest.
