PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Win xp, Win 98SE
Problem Application Name & Version:Can't Network
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

Computers are not seeing each other. The set-up is, DSL modem to a router, to two computers. Both ping successfully. 98Se is set up for TCP/IP. Sometimes I can see the 98SE on the 98 computer in Network Neighborhood, but not on the XP computer. As a matter of fact, the XP will not even attempt to "view other computers on the network". I get a dreaded error message stating that I do not have permission, contact administrator. Yes, I am logged on as the administrator. Furthermore, both computers are under the same workgoup. I ran the Network wizard on the XP computer and created the network set-up disk. Upon reboot, the 98SE will not install the setup. I have the internet on both systems. Anyone?

HI,

Have you gone through my "P2P Home Networking Checklist"?

As a matter of fact, I read it just prior to reading your reply. Nothing really stands out. Is there something I am missing?

Hi,

Set to "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" on the "WINS" tab of the Advanced TCP/IP properties instead of "Default" on both systems.
