Try using the system restore and go back to the time when the PC was working properly.Programs-Accessories-system tools-system restore.

The restore lets you create a restore point. Have you tried that? If that fails,
bring up the bios and just use the default.

Thewre are several things that are a possibility to get your PC working. You will need someone that has some experience to guide you. It is too difficult to get a novice to follow the needed steps. Sorry, I did try for you;

Hi,

Were these drives working properly before the virus?
Was there any new software/hardware installed right before this problem started?
Was the system moved right before this started?

The problem has been solved. it seemed that my cd drive was dying, and because my dvd drive is connected by the same ide cable it also did not boot up. i brought a new drive and this seems to have fixed the problem as booting now works fine
