Hi,

Is this still occuring today?
If so, can you access any other sites?

If the only site you have problems with is google, check for a file named 'HOST' under the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc. Edit this file and look for any entries for google

also do a virus scan as I have heard that the QHOST virus will make it hard to do any searches

Hiya

This may also be a hijacker of some sorts.

Download Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de

After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds.

That ought to get rid of most of your spyware.

When you've done all that, go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Reboot in between running spybot & Hijackthis

Regards

Hi,

Can you ping 216.239.37.99 (which is google)?

If so, contact your ISP because this is a DNS problem.

Ping was succesfull to ip addres.  So its a problem
with Comcast?  I recently had my internet service disrupted and
a technician changed some network options.  Could  that be it?

Thanks again!

Hi,

Could be! I would call Comcast support to let them know you can ping Google's IP but their DNS server is not doing the name resolution.

Did the technician use a static IP and static DNS IP in your Comcast TCP/IP network settings or is it set to Obtain an IP address Automatically?
