i'm using a laptop running windows xp with built in speakers.i can't hear any sounds at all unless i try to adjust the volume controls.sound comes then but very briefly and fades away.earphones don't work either.help?

Hi,

Is the sound card properly setup in Device Manager? Any "Other Devices" with a yello exclamation mark?

Check your multimedia settings in the Control Panel and make sure the "Preferred" device is the right sound card.

i did check that and it's all fine,plus it says that the device is working properly..
