PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:windows 98 on Dell Pentium 90
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:Cicero USB ports and HP 1012 printer
Error Messages: Cannot attach printer close all windows programs and try again

Okay, so I bought a new HP 1012 printer. I get home and find that it does not have a parallel port (just a space where the salesman said it would be). So I bought a  card to install 2 USB ports on my computer. I have not been able to get this to work.

Windows recognizes that the card was installed and loaded drivers from the windows 98 CD. (The manual for the usb card said that this was the procedure and no other drivers were included with the card).

The drivers for the ports seem to load, then windows can tell that there is a new piece of hardware attached (the printer) and attempts to connect to it through the plug and play utility.

So, now I am perplexed. According to the device manager the usb ports are there and working. According to the properties under the printer icon (in control panel) the Usb port is there...I'm stumped.

I just tried again, anf I get most of the way through the set up wizard for the printer and then get a message that says, " unable to install printer. severe error. ending program. please shut down windows and try again"

Help !
