PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:win 98 voodoo3 256mb ram
Problem Application Name & Version:b17 flying fortress(and all games tried)
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:ERROR STARTING PROGRAM a required DLL file Dinput.dll was not found.Sad



Am really new to all this.just want to play a few old games.I realise my pc is dated.When ive installed the games from cd i always get this sort of response when i double click on the desktop icon.PLeeeeease help me!

Many thanks for your help brian.I sucessfully downloaded the input file.It then asked for dsound which i also downloaded.However, when i try to load up my game, a message appears saying THE DSOUND FILE CANNOT START. CHECK FILE TO DETERMINE PROBLEM.Unfortunatley this also has me stuck.Any ideas? Thanks again.

Hi,

Could be the wrong file version.

These files are part of DirectX drivers. Go to http://download.microsoft.com/download/winme/Update/8.0a/W9XMe/EN-US/DX80eng.exe to download DirectX 8.0a and re-install.

think i must be running directx8.realised game is for directx7 compatible video cards. mine is a voodoo3 card.shall i proceed with downloading and re installing directx8? game has direct x7 on it but if i try and install it it says a newer directx has been found.

hi
have downloaded directx8 but didnt know where to send it.put it in directx in system.Dont know how to replce my old directx with the new one and where it goes.Im sorry-im a major novice.Thanks

When i double clicked it said ILLEGAL OPERATION ETC. so i tried again and it said THE PACKAGE IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE VERSION OF WINDOWS YOU ARE RUNNING.I dont know if i should have done this but i unzipped yhe directx8 download and it said CAB FILE DX80eng.exe IS CORRUPT.

sometimes when the file is downloaded it gets corrupt try redownloading and then try reinstall again

Download and installation of direct x8 was successful.however, when i try to load game it still says THE DSOUND.DLL FILE CANNOT START, CHECK THE FILE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. Also i havent deleted anything to do with the old directx,does this matter?Thankyou again.

Run DXDIAG to troubleshoot.

Start > Run > type dxdiag

found dxdiag but computer says its moved or changed.
it then says NO ISDN DEVICES WERE FOUND.PLEASE INSTALL IDSN DEVICE AND RUN THE CONFIGURATION WIZARD AGAIN.  eeeek:-\!Ive since looked into the dsound file and it says its for windows 95 and nt!!?? Im running windows 98 but it definately asked for dsound.Any ideas anyone?thanks

Hi,

I would try to re-install DirectX 8 in Safe-Mode.

Hit <F8> right before the Windows logo screen during bootup to access the Boot Menu and select Safe-Mode.
