My Cd drive on my computer will not read any disks. this is a new drive which worked fine for approx a 2 months before this problem started. all drivers are loaded and working, and there are no hardware conflicts. when i insert a disk i recieve a maessage to say that there is no relevent disk in the drive. i can see the volume of the drive, but cannot explore it. reinstalling drivers have not cured the problem. any ideas please?

Hi,

Is this happening to any CDs or only a few or burnt (cdr) CDs?

Have you recently added any new drives (hard drives, cdrom, cdrw, dvd...) in the system?

I would boot off a WinME Startup disk and use "With cdrom support" option in boot menu and try to do a directory listing of a CD to rule out a Windows problem.

Hi
this problem is happening with all cd media, programme disks, games etc. I cannot get the cd drive to read any cd disk. I did load an external cd writer and i think this was about the time this problem started. could this be the problem? the cd writer is working, but i cant use it to read disks, only burn them
many thanks
