Huh?
I have Windows XP Pro and just installed Acrobat 5.0.  In Word 2003, I click the icon to convert to a PDF file and get this error message: "PDFMaker cannot locate the Acrobat Distiller printer driver.  Please reinstall Adobe Acrobat 5.0"  Actually, I just realized that's what happens when I get into Word from the desktop.  When I get into Word from the start bar at the bottom of the desktop, I don't have the icons and can't find the toolbar under view, toolbars.

When I click File, Print, Find Printers I get an error message saying that the directory is currently unavailable.

Can anyone help?

The farther this goes the more I realize how much I don't know.  Where do I find the printer spooler service and how do I make sure it's on?

Thank you so much!

Hi,

Go to the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
Look in the Status column to see if the "Printer Spooler" is started, if not, right click it and select "Start"

Hi,

Just to rule out a user rights issue, try logging in using an admin account to see if problem persists.

Meanwhile I will keep digging!

I don't have that option.  When I try to change users, there are no other users to switch to.

Thanks!

Hi,

Is this on a work system or at home?

If at home, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management
Then go to Local Users and Group and dig down to Users
This is a list of users on your system. When you first installed WinXP you would have created a administrator account. Check your existing account to see if it is a members of the administrator group

It is an administrator account.  I downloaded cuteprinter and it's doing the job.  I'm interested in getting my computer to work correctly, but my immediate problem is solved.  If you want to stop wasting time on me, be my guest.  Wink

Hi,

I haven't given up!

I think you may find your answer reading this:
Acrobat Distiller Printer Doesn't Install with Acrobat (5.x on Windows XP and 2000)

That does look like it will help.  I'll try it sometime tomorrow when I can see straight.

go to the site below, and download the PScript5 driver and then uninstall your Acrobat and then reinstall it... make sure that you are the ADMINISTRATOR when you are doing this...
