PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Windows XP Home
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:Toshiba SD-C2502 DVD Rom
Error Messages:"Disk not formatted" Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows.

I would like to format this HDD and start fresh, but I can't boot to the CD. I don't know if it's possible to use an external firewire
cd drive to boot up, but I haven't been able to do it yet. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the dvd rom, as it reads dvd's perfectly.

Is there a way to fix this without wiping out the hard disk? I hate to
go through all the hassle unnecessarily. I was told it may be a virus, but I don't know for sure.

Hi,

You can run a free online antivirus scanner from http://housecall.trendmicro.com

What program are you using to burn your CDRW?

Resolved the issue. I re-seated the tape cable under the laser eye in its connector terminal, and it works on all disks now. I guess it was a hardware problem after all. Thanks for the online virus scan site, too.
I really like the advice you offer on this site.
