PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: WIn 98 2nd Ed
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:MX 36 AOpen motherboard
Error Messages:

I have this peculiar problem with my PC

The OS is Win 98 2nd Ed

Each time i start the machine , it switches off and starts again twice automatically!

then another related or unrelated problem is that the PC hangs (screen goes blank or with lines) after approx 15 mins, on re starting the problem occurs again within a minute.
I have to wait about an hour or so before the PC becomes operational for another 15 mins.

Could you please help me identify the problem.

it sounds to me like you have contracted the internet WORM virus. Go to the MS website and download the update for this prob. If you cannot do that as the PC continually shuts down then download on another PC and copy to disc.

Hi,

Your second problem sounds heat related. Make sure all your fans are spinning, especially the CPU fan.

Thanks for the reply,

I had the same feeling but was not sure, there is a hardware monitor which showed the cpu fan rpm as 0 and system fan with 4174, but on opening the system the fan on top of the cpu  seemed to be rotating or is that the system fan ?

how do i solve this problem

Please advise

Rgds,

George

Hi,

The system fan would be mounted on the chassie (case)

Is the CPU fan well attached to the CPU?
