Sounds like RealPlayer has become your default media player for some or all types of music files.  Could be just MP3 or just wav or both as examples.
What player do you want to be the default player for musical files?
winamp for example?

Each player will typically have a setting which makes it the default for certain types of file extensions.  So you need to set that.

Otherwise as 2 workarounds you could open the the file you want from within the player you wish, or open explorer, browse to the file you want, right click, open with... and the player you want.

Also try to run mplayer2.exe to see if it also locks up when playing Audio CDs.

If not, re-install RealPlayer if this is your player of choice.
