PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

Win 2000 Professional
Windows Media Player v9
MusicMatch Jukebox
Here goes, I lost Internet Explorer due to a spyware cleaning software , so I had to reformat the hard drive. Just to get IE back. Everything works fine except the computer will not play an mp3 file or a wav file or any type of sound. However, it will play a regular audio cd. I've tried reinstalling the drivers for the sound card "Live Theater 5.1" ,but that did not work. I redownloaded windows media player and that did not work. I change the settings in sounds and multimedia and that did not work. I made sure that nothing was muted in the volume controls. I even took the sound card out completely and physically put it back in, still nothing works except a regular audio cd.I just don't get it everything was fine before that spyware cleaner which is no longer on the hard drive because like I said earlier I had to reformat. I hope that was enough information because I don't know what else to say or do. Thanks you guys/gals.

Have you tried an alternate media player to see if that works, if it doesn't it could be a codec issue - sounds a weird problem either way mate!

Hi

have u checked the sound and audio device icon in conrtol panel to
see if any of the sound controls have been muted if so untick the appropriate boxes and see if that helps, it does seems strange you can play audio cd's but not wav/mp3 files, try that approach above and good luck, hope this helps to solve your sound problems.

Try uninstalling the drivers again and removing the sound and putting
it into another pci slot, might be worth a try.
