Operating System Version:win 98 se
Problem Application Name & Version: fat and drive c
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages: scandisk encountered a date error while reading the fat on drive c.

this error prevents scandisk from fixing this drive.

that's pretty much whats going on. then it loads up like it normally would to my desktop and it starts giving me the 'this program has performed and illegal operation and will be shut down.' basically with all my programs. i dont own a win98 cd only a copy a friend made. and this computer i'm using is xp. what can i do. i cant afford to lose my school data i have in there. any help would be appreciated.

What do you mean the pc I'm using is xp. Are you saying your pc is dual boot with xp as the main o.s? If so is the H.D. formatted to fat 32 ?
