Hi, I've read all the other problems pertaining to logging in with XP, but none posted seem to be relevant to my problem. Windows does boot up, and the black loading screen finishes with no problem.  The Windows XP graphic on the center-right portion of the screen shows up, but the icons of my login names don't. It seems Windows stops booting before I can select a user name.  I have tried all of the starup options, including last known good config.  I have many very important items on this hard drive and I would very much like to keep them. Is there a way to get into Windows to fix the problem?
                    Thank You

Did you try the Safe-Mode boot option? Does it work?

If so, try changing to Diagnostics Startup Mode using Start > Run > MSCONFIG to see if you can go into Windows. Let me know and we will go from there.
