First off get the program called Ad-Aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/ and run it.Whatever it finds, remove it,its quite safe to do so. This will take out the tracking cookies and any other spy ware. As for your second problem go to the Control Panel then double click on Add Remove. Some of the prgrames that you did not download will be in there and should have automatic uninstallers. let us know how you get on.

If the install logs are missing then the best thing to do is to download and install the programs again and this will let you remove them all with Add/Remove. There is a program called TweakUI which I think allows you to get rid of these dead entries. If you feel ok in the registry you can remove them that way.

Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Uninstall, and remove any unwanted keys under "Uninstall
