PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows XP Professional
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model: Dell Latitude D600
Error Messages: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

This is fairly self-explanatory - I need to run the recovery utility from the XP Pro CDROM. The problem is that I don't have access to the original CD-ROM. Is there any way to perform the repair without the CD. Is there any software I could download and burn onto CD, or any other workaround?

No, you need the original WinXP cd!

I am assuming you only have the Dell Recovery CD, perhaps there is a way using that CD but you will have to contact Dell to find out. Generally, recovery CDs wipe the hard drive and restores to orignal setup
