PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:xp home edition X2
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

Hi guys and happy new year,

maybe just maybe you might be able to help me with  my problem and save me from the overwhelming BS that PC world etc are throwing at me.

Right: I have a pretty good base unit system an HP 7965 only about 18 months  old with normal dial up internet and xp home edition. I also purchased a really good all the bells and whistles laptop which was 'wireless enabled' and exceeds the desk top spec and also runs home xp.

So far so good. I purchased a plug in belkan unit to broadcast wireless signal to the laptop and it didn't work, neither did a separate unit from another manufacturer. Although the desk top said it was giving off a signal with both units it wasn't picked up by the laptop even though the lap top was also  giving out a signal. I took base unit and laptop to the store and even they couldn't get it to work -- not good

I do not want loads of cables around the house although the network works fine this way.

I now want to go broadband and one so called expert said the desk top broadband modem will broadcast a wireless signal to the laptop -- problem solved Huh?

So my question is please can you advise me how to do the following

Link my desk top enabled with the broadband  by wireless to my laptop elsewhere in the house to enable the laptop to use the broadband connection as well as access desk top files etc.

your help would be greatly appreciated
