PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Windows XP
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

I am unable to fully download & install windows security updates. The system tries to download & install the same updates every day. It looks as if something is blocking the download/installation.

I have run all the standard checks - spybot/adware, virus scan, defragged, disc cleanup. But nothing seems to help.

Can anyone suggest a solution.

Do you have any firewalls running?
Also, XP has its own firewall, I dont think it would get in the way but you could try disabling it to get the updates. This is done by:
>Right click Internet explorer icon
>Internet Properties
>Connections
>Settings
>Properties
>Advanced
Then un-tick the box marked Internet Connection Firewall.

Then try to download the required files.

Try this.
Go to the Windows Update site and click "Scan for updates" and jot down the Microsoft Knowedge Base numbers from the problem updates.Close Windows Update page.

Start/Run type regedit. Before you start backup you Registry

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP1

Find the subkey number you made note of. Right click the folder and choose "Delete" from the menu.Do the same with any other subkey numbers you noted. Also check in the key folder SP2. Close the Registry Editor and reboot.Go back to the Windows Update site and reinstall the update/s and reboot.

Is it perhaps you have a blacklisted key for your operating system that stops your updates?

If so I can help by sending you an batch file to work around the issue!
