Operating System Version:Windows ME
Problem Application Name & Version:ME Control Panel
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

When I try to start the control panel from the 'start' button or 'My Computer', nothing happens. I can run individual programs (*.cpl) from windows explorer, but not the control panel itself.
Does anyone have any good ideas and suggestions what I should do to make it work again?

hi,
may be the files are corrupted
try this

Click Start
Select Run
Type MSCONFIG
Click on the "Startup" tab
Scroll through the list of items and remove the checkmarks that appear beside "PCHealth" and "StateMgr"
Click OK
When prompted to restart the system, click Yes
*NOTE: After completing the troubleshooting listed below, it will be necessary to repeat the above steps in order replace the checkmarks beside the disabled items. After the system has restarted, perform the following steps:
Click Start
Select Run
Type MSCONFIG in the "Run" box. Click OK
Click on "Extract File", which will appear at the bottom of the first screen
Type in the file name (e.g. INETCPL.CPL)
Click Start
In the field that appears beside "Restore from", type C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS
In the field beside "Save file in", type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
Click OK
Click Skip when prompted to back up the existing file
Click OK once the message confirming the extraction appears"
