To recover, put your original Windows CD in the CD-ROM drive, open an MS-DOS prompt, and navigate to the folder on the CD-ROM that contains the setup .cab files. These will be files with sequentially numbered names like Win98_21.cab, Win98_22.cab, and so forth. Within that directory, determine the first CAB file name in numerical sequence. Now enter the command EXTRACT/LC:\Windows /A win98_21.cab rundll32.exe, replacing Win98_21.cab with the actual lowest-numbered CAB file name. This will extract a fresh copy of Rundll32.exe and put this essential file directly into your Windows folder.

Two problems arose: my CD is from an earlier version of Win 98,so the setup files are disabled, and when I typed the command I got a reply "invalid switch: /LC:\WINDOWS". The lowest # CAB is 98_22. My DOS skills are pretty rusty.

Tried again today, with the same result. Guess I need to upgrade my OS and/or CPU, but it USED to work fine. Still does, except I can't change any settings. Got all my colors back by re-installing the video driver twice, and got it to print from Word and IE by re-installing the printer twice. But the machine still can't find rundll32.exe (or one of its components).

:)Solved the problem! Went to microsoft support and read article #129605, followed the directions given and my rundll32.exe file is restored. Thanx anyway for the attempted help.
